Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) is preparing to roll out its very first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in the country: the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH, short for Chery Super Hybrid. And the headline claim is a bold one this eco-friendly SUV is said to sip fuel so efficiently that it could outdo the fuel economy of a Honda BeAT motorcycle.

Rifkie Setiawan, Head of Brand Department at PT Chery Sales Indonesia, explained that the Tiggo 8 CSH combines Super Hybrid Electric Vehicle (Super HEV) technology with electric vehicle (EV) capability.

That combination, he said, positions the car not just as a fuel-saving alternative, but as a vehicle that can outperform pure EVs in areas where battery-only cars still fall short namely range and charging convenience.

“The Chery Tiggo 8 CSH is a 7-seat SUV built on Chery’s Super Hybrid technology, the first of its kind in Indonesia. It’s a real demonstration of our commitment to delivering efficient, intelligent mobility solutions that meet the dynamic needs of Indonesian consumers. We hope it becomes the top choice in the hybrid segment when it comes to fuel efficiency,” Rifkie said.

Engine Performance

Unlike conventional hybrids that still lean heavily on their petrol engines, the Chery Super Hybrid system can send power to the wheels independently through its electric motor. That setup translates into higher energy efficiency, sharper throttle response, and a noticeably smoother, quieter ride.

At the core of the Tiggo 8 CSH’s performance is the Acteco H4J15, a 1,500cc turbocharged engine built specifically for Chery’s latest Super Hybrid platform. It produces 243 PS and up to 215 Nm of torque, while still delivering standout fuel economy up to 76 km per liter based on WLTC testing. The engine also boasts a thermal efficiency of 44.5%, well above the current industry average.

This power is paired with a 1DHT Super Electric Hybrid transmission, a stepless design that ensures smooth, precise power delivery between the engine and electric motor.

Battery Performance

For both long-distance travel and daily driving, the Tiggo 8 CSH is equipped with an 18.3 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, certified IP68 for waterproofing. The battery is built to withstand extreme temperatures, from -35°C to 60°C.

Thanks to this setup, the Tiggo 8 CSH can travel up to 90 km in full EV mode, making it a genuinely eco-friendly option for city driving. Charging is fast and convenient too the battery can go from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes using a CCS2 port. And if the battery runs low mid-drive, the engine automatically kicks in to keep the car powered.

Key Features

Two standout features add real everyday value: Nap Mode, designed for safe in-car rest stops, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power supply, which turns the Tiggo 8 CSH into a portable power source for outdoor activities. Combined with a quiet, zero-emission engine, the cabin becomes an ideal space for restful breaks perfect for urban families who love long road trips.

Every inch of the interior has been designed with comfort in mind, using premium materials throughout. Massage and ventilated seats, along with an electric panoramic sunroof, round out a cabin built for both driver and passengers.

Other highlights include:

  • Offline-capable voice commands
  • A 540-degree surround camera
  • ISOFIX child seat anchors
  • 14 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, and Automatic Emergency Braking

With this combination of power, efficiency, and tech, the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH looks set to be a serious contender in Indonesia’s growing hybrid SUV segment.
